Forbidding

Forbidding   The first order a puppy must learn is "no!". The puppy first heard it if he peed in a prohibited place: go on using this order every time he does an undesirable thing (such as mistaking his mistress slipper for a toy).
Besides the undesirable actions to us, we must stop with a sharp "no!" the puppy from doing anything that could hurt him. For example: we will automatically stop a dog from getting on a white leather couch, but if the puppy tried to climb on an old and not so well shaped armchair, we would be tempted to close an eye.
Wrong: a Saint Bernard puppy can hurt himself by jumping on and off an old armchair too.

Teaching him to "greet"

Bringing our face to his level   Among the first things a puppy must learn is how to greet his master in a proper way. If he takes on the habit of jumping onto people he will keep that habit as an adult: a ninety kilo dog greeting us with his paws on our shoulders would... squish us.

is simply trying to reach our

When he jumps on us, the puppy is simply trying to reach our face: to avoid this it is sufficient to bend on our knees, bringing our face to his level and allowing him to express his affection.
